A book in progress by Chau Nguyen
The six ways we love, and where your love can grow
Everyone wants to love and be loved. What differs is how. This book helps you discover your love style, understand the people you love, and choose the environments where your kind of love can thrive, whether you're single or in a relationship.
Discover your love styleBeyond love languages
Love languages taught millions of people that partners have different needs, and that was a real gift. But research has found little support for its central claims. This book builds on a framework with decades of research behind it: sociologist John Alan Lee's six styles of love.
How you love
Not just how you like to receive love, but how you pursue it, express it, and hold on to it.
Blends, not boxes
Everyone carries a mix of all six styles. Your blend can shift with the person and the season of life.
Choice, not blame
No style is wrong. Each grows best in certain environments, and you have more choice about yours than you might think.
Six kinds of lovers
Each style keeps Lee's original Greek name, paired with an archetype you can recognize yourself in.

The Passionate Lover
Eros
Knows when they feel it, and feels it deeply.

The Free-Spirited Lover
Ludus
Believes love should feel free, playful, and alive.

The Best-Friend Lover
Storge
Falls in love with the person they already trust.

The Intentional Lover
Pragma
Builds love on purpose, with head and heart together.

The Wholehearted Lover
Mania
Loves completely, with everything they have.

The Giving Lover
Agape
Shows love by showing up for the people they love.
Who it's for
Men and women alike share the same need for love. The book speaks to every stage:
- Single and searching
- Dating
- Newly together
- Long married
- Starting over
