Six kinds of lovers
In the 1970s, sociologist John Alan Lee described six distinct styles of love. Most of us are a blend of two or three, and the mix can shift with experience. None of them is wrong. Each one simply thrives in some settings and struggles in others.
The Passionate Lover
Eros (AIR-ose)
Chemistry comes first. You know quickly, and you feel it deeply.
The Free-Spirited Lover
Ludus (LOO-dus)
Love is an adventure. You value freedom and enjoy the chase.
The Best-Friend Lover
Storge (STOR-gay)
Slow and steady. Your best relationships started as friendships.
The Intentional Lover
Pragma (PRAG-muh)
You look for real compatibility and a partner for the long run.
The Wholehearted Lover
Mania (MAY-nee-uh)
Intense and all-consuming, with big highs and hard lows.
The Giving Lover
Agape (ah-GAH-pay)
You give generously and care deeply about your partner's wellbeing.

Wanting love is healthy. The question is whether the places we look for it are built to help us find it.
I'm Chau Nguyen, a doctoral student in clinical psychology, and I'm writing a book on the six love styles for anyone, single or partnered, who wants to understand how they love.
I learned about my own love style the hard way, by spending years in places that didn't suit it. This quiz is the foundation of the book: once you know how you love, you can choose the environments where your kind of love can grow.
Questions
Is this a psychological test or diagnosis?
No. It's a reflective self-discovery tool based on Lee's love styles, meant for insight and conversation. It isn't a clinical assessment and doesn't replace working with a licensed professional.
Is it really free?
Yes. The quiz and your Lover's Guide are free. We ask for your email so we can show your results and send you a copy to keep.
What happens with my email?
You'll get a copy of your Lover's Guide, a few notes on the ideas in the book, and word when the book launches. You can unsubscribe with one click at any time.
Is this only for singles?
No. It works whether you're single, dating, or in a long-term relationship. If you're partnered, your results show how your style shows up in your relationship, and a couples report is on the way.
Can my results change?
They can. Love styles often shift with life stage, past relationships, and who you're with. Retaking the quiz in a year can be revealing.
